Tips for Daily Self Care
There’s more to self-care than the occasional face mask or bubble bath (although that’s great!). It’s a process, a routine, and it needs to be practiced regularly. Here are some different ways that you can care for yourself regularly
Wake Up and Be Awesome! or The Importance of Having a Morning Routine
In case you haven’t heard, having a morning routine is SUPER important. It sets the tone for the rest of your day. This could include anything from light stretching, a full workout, sipping your first cup of coffee, and/or making a list of things you are grateful for.
“Ya that sounds wonderful but my mornings are already super busy!”
I hear you, and my answer? Get up an hour earlier. I know for some of you that sounds absolutely ludicrous, but seriously it makes all the difference!! Yes it will take some adjusting. But if you stick with it, you will adjust! And you’ll thank yourself for it! Don’t believe me? Try waking up just 20 minutes earlier. Once you realize the amazingness of having some extra time to enjoy your coffee (while it’s still hot!), you’ll realize that waking up earlier to have a whole extra hour may not be all that bad!
Gratitude, Gratitude, Gratitude!
The more you’re grateful for, the more the universe will give you to be grateful for! Start making a daily list of things in your life that you’re thankful for (Minimum 5 things!!). It’s actually pretty easy to do. Look around your life right now and find 3 things. It can be small, like working wifi or that your job provides steady income. Or it could be global, like the fact that you have access to running water. And what about the people in your life that love and support you (partner, children, friends, parents, coworkers)? Trust me, if you start looking for things to be grateful for, you’ll find them, and it will make you feel so much better. I’d also highly recommend making this list first thing in the morning (see tip 1)! Getting you into a grateful mindset first thing will help you to feel grateful during the rest of the day!

It’s important to know your limits. First define them, and then respect them. It may feel like your responsibility to take on everyone else’s obstacles and find the ways to overcome them, but it’s not! You may feel like you have to say yes to any and every invite from your friends or coworkers. But you don’t! While it is totally great to be kind, and giving, and helpful, you can’t give from an empty cup. Meaning, if you’re running on empty, you can’t effectively help those others around you. So if you need to skip a brunch or a happy hour because you wanna get an extra hour of sleep, catch up on your Netflix List, or hit a yoga class, that totally okay!!
Take Yourself on Dates
Getting out and to spend time by yourself is important. It helps you to check in with where you are mentally, and is a great way to recharge when you’re feeling down. Take a book to a park, go for lunch, or try a new workout class. Spending time with yourself helps improve your self love, and when you’re full of love, you have more love to share!
Consistency is Key!
Stress will always be there, so it’s important to regularly practice self-care. Whether you’re experiencing an amazing day or just a “meh” day, it’s important to keep up with taking care of yourself. This way, when the bad moments do come, you’re not already at your edge, and what might have seemed astronomically upsetting might only seem like a slight inconvenience.
